“Inglorious Basterds” is finally off the top ten list for highest weekend gross. “Cloudy with a Chance of meatballs” is at number 2 now instead of 1 but thats still really good for being out for 3 weeks now. “Zombieland” was number one bringing in 25 million. Toy Story 1&2 in 3D came in 3rd with 12.5 million. Tying for 6th and 7th with 4.9 million was Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut “Whip It” and Micheal Moore’s new documentary “Capitalism: A Love Story”. Both opened this weekend. “Whip It” was filmed here in the detroit area. I know a lot of people that got to be extras in it. I’m sure you do too, ask around.
Opening next weekend are
I’ve been incredibly busy this week so I actually havent had any free time to keep up on cool new movie news or anything like that but I have heard a couple things…
because of DVR network tv is starting (soon, although some shows started already) to advertise in their shows. Meaning, forcing the writers to incorporate products and businesses into the script some how. Lame as Hell!! I’ve already witnessed it and was pissed, so be prepared because its going to come more and more.
Also, for people who like Anime… which I know theres some in class who do, there is an Anime convention in Dearborn, Thursday Oct. 29th – Sunday Nov. 1st. There will be events and famous voice actors. The description on the main page is…
“Youmacon 2009 is a go. Metro Detroit’s first and only anime convention is returning for its fifth year, and it’s better than ever. Here at Youmacon, thousands of otaku from Michigan and beyond meet anime voice actors face to face, compete for masquerade and cosplay trophies, and shop for treasures of their favorite fandom. Youmacon’s original events immerse you in the experience of becoming a Japanese chess piece in a game of shougi, leading a team to the Star in a live action Mario Partycafe. And the fun never stops, because Youmacon provides all-night gaming and video programming, as well as a dedicated video/audio track featuring anime music videos and beyond. So let us exceed your expectations. For the fifth time.”

Well not much changed in this weekends box office stats. “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” was this weeks top seller again for the second weekend in a row after its release last weekend. It brought in 24.5 million this weekend bringing it to a total 60 million which is good for two weeks. For those of you who dont know, this film is animated and available for 3d viewing in select theaters. It has a great cast. The leads are Bill Hader who is hilarious and Anna Faris who is also funny. It also has Neil Patrick Harris, Andy Samberg, Will Forte and of course, because whats a kids movie without, Mr. T.
The highest grossing movie out right now is still the same from last week as well, “Inglorious Bastards”. Now at 114.5 million. But it was in 10th place for highest weekend gross. It’s up to being the 334th highest grossing movie of all time. Which doesnt sound very high, but think about how many movies have been made.
The order of the rest of the movies are as follow… 2. Surrogates 3. Fame 4. The Informant! 5. I can do bad all by myself 6. Pandorum 7. Love Happens 8. Jennifers Body 9. 9 (haha) 10. Inglorious Bastards.
John Krasinski (“Jim” from The Office) directed his first movie which was an indie film that came out today so no one will probably see it until late 2010, maybe early 2011 called “brief interviews with hideous men”. Speaking on John Krasinski, last month he got engaged to actress Emily Blunt who was in a really good indie film i saw last week called “Sunshine Cleaning” with Amy Adams and Alan Arkin. Amber from class saw it too and liked it so if you get the chance to you should. If you like those quirky kind of indie films then you should also check out those movies I mentioned in my last blog and also “Garden State” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “Donnie Darko”.
ps. “Eagle vs Shark”, one of the movies i mentioned last week (along with “Wristcutters: a love story”) stars Jemaine from “The Flight of the Concords” who are very popular right now.

This was a pretty slow week at the box office again. The movie to bring in the most money was “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” with 30 million. Which is good. But the next highest movie was the new Matt Damon movie “The Informant” with only 10.5 million. The least successful movie to come out this weekend which makes me happy was the new Megan Fox movie, “Jennifers Body” with only 6.5 million dollars and right now has a 6 out of 10 user rating. Which is good because that movie looked terrible. The most successful movie in theaters right now is “Inglorious Bastards” making 110 million after being out for 5 weeks. The top movie from last week Tyler Perry’s “I Can Do Bad All By Myself” went down 57% this week only bringing in 10 million and has continued to lower to a 2 out 10 rating and what makes me happy is now the #88th worst rated movie of all time on IMDBs bottom 100 rated movies list.
Some of this weeks big news updates are that starting Oct 2 for 2 weeks toy story and toy story 2 will be double featuring in 3D in select theaters. Also Muse was asked to write the next theme song for the next bond movie, “Bond 23″ which megan fox just turned down the lead female role of because apparently she thinks shes better than bond. Scrubs announced officially that there will be a season 9. And of course, Patrick Swayze died of cancer.
“It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia”, the highest user rated comedy on tv right now, was signed on for 3 more years with FX. It’s last week season premiere got a 8.6 user rating.
If anyone wants to see an amazing movie this week, and likes Indie Films, I suggest “Wristcutters: A Love Story” and “Eagle vs. Shark”
I’ll start with talking about this past weeks box office stats. It was a relatively small weekend for movies. Nothing that big came out. The average amount of money for the best selling movie of the weekend is between 24 – 32 million. (Im only going to be talking about US sales in this blog. ) More weekends than not, there is a movie that makes in the low 30 millions. And of course there are better weekends and worse weekends depending on the movies that are out at the time.
So moving on to this weeks movies… Very unfortunately the most successful movie this week was the new Tyler Perry movie “I Can Do Bad All By Myself”, bringing in only 24 million. I dont know how this guy keeps getting work but he does. While it was the top movie this weekend, so far it has recieved only a 3.1 IMDB user rating out of 10.
Next up we have “9″ making 15 million. I really thought this would do better but it didnt. I dont like the way it was publicized and am sure thats a big part of its non-success. Produced by Tim Burton, directed by Shane Acker, starring voices of Elijah Wood, Jennifer Connelly, John C. Reilley, Crispin Glover and more. So far, a 7.4 out of 10 IMDB user rating.
The two highest cumulatively grossing movies that are out right now are “Inglorious Bastards” 4 weeks at 104 million and “District 9″ 5 weeks at 108 million. I consider 100-200 million a successful movie. 200+ is a very successful film and under 100 million potentially runs the risk of losing money from the overall production. Even if the movie received a high rating.
On to news. The lawsuit between the Tolkein family is and New Line Cinema is over and the plan for the two movies of the “Lord of the Rings” prequal, “The Hobbit” are officially a go with 2011 and 2012 release dates. No actor to play young Bilbo Baggins has been officially chosen yet. Many LOTR actors set to return for prequal.
Johnny Depp appeared publically in character as Jack Sparrow to talk about “Pirates of the Carribean” 4. Rumor is its going to be about the search for Sparrows brother, but who knows. Depp made a world record for highest payed actor for a single film to sign up for pirates 4. He will receive 54 million up front for signing on plus a percentage of the films profits. An offial trailer for Tim Burton/Johnny Depp’s next film “Alice in Wonderland” has been released and looks exciting. Link to trailer:

Since this is my first blog these arent the newest updates, but recent ones that I am excited about. Next weeks will be closer to the most latest news. This is getting kind of long so I’ll end with a brief of exciting TV events this week.
Tonight, sunday 13 is the HBO “True Blood” Season finally where a main character is in serious trouble and a few different cliff hangers are planned. Thursday night are the season 6 premiere of NBC’s “the Office” followed on FX’s exclusive comedy “It’s Always Sunny in Philidelphia” which has returned by popular demand after almost being cancelled. It is the highest user rated comedy on IMDB. Next week we’ll see the premiere of “South Park” and “Two and a Half Men”
